Target is Evil

Well, maybe not Target. Maybe the allure of Target is evil. Maybe it's just the ease of spending every dime in the checking account without even realizing it while you are there that's evil.

Lorelei and I went to Target after she got done with school. {And the driving did nothing good for my neck.} The minute we walk in we're directly in front of all the cute little dollar items. Adorable stuff. I'd buy more probably if I didn't have at least a shred of self-discipline.

Of course, Lorelei wanted a bit of everything. And we ended up with fake body art. Just what we need around here -- body stickers. Like my tattoos and nose piercings aren't enough strangeness for our neighbors.

And I was doing really good at resisting putting anything in the cart until I came across the little four leaf clover grow kits. Kind of like the ones that Swistle bought in October. They were too cute to resist really. And besides it's almost St. Patrick's Day. Who couldn't use a little four leaf clover luck right in their very own house? For one whole dollar I just couldn't resist getting two.

I wasn't at Target for those, but I mean really, can you blame me? It's like not getting a double cheeseburger at McDonald's even though they are only a dollar. It doesn't make sense.

After that, we actually went to find what we were there for. A new backpack for Caleb. He's a backpack dragger. He pulls his poor backpack along behind him. Months and months later -- his current backpack is littered with holes along the bottom. And the keychain I got him in Baltimore is ruined. {And he actually came home crying about that one day and I seriously freaked out and thought someone had tried to kidnap him and was almost about to dial 911 when he finally told me why he was so upset.}

But, yes, we went for a new backpack. And he wanted a red one. And thankfully I thought ahead and brought a little extra money with me because WHEW! The price of backpacks at this time of year is absolutely crazy??? For a few minutes I thought I was actually going to have to drop almost $30 on one. I got lucky though {the four leaf clovers are working already!} and found one for just $9.99. A red one at that!

We meandered around a little after that. Of course, I was itching to buy more and Lorelei is most certainly not thrifty when it comes to shopping. We are a dangerous combo my girl and I. I kept my hands on the cart. She kept touching things to tempt me.

We had almost made it to the check out without spending even another cent -- and I saw Gremlins on DVD. We all know that Gremlins rocked back in it's day. And you know it's like a classic and every kid should see it. It was even sitting next to Goonies on the rack. That screams must have. So I bought it. Because it was only $9 and I think the kids will just love it. And we sort of love movie nights around here.

But other than the backpack and two four leaf clover grow kits and strange body art stickers and the Gremlins DVD and the Tic Tacs -- I didn't buy anything.

For the first time in months, I think I left Target having spent less than $100. In fact, my total was just over $25. But Target is still evil. At least, I think so.
