It's Snowing!

It's only been snowing about two hours, but we've got enough to show for it already. Estimates that I heard were 3-5 inches of the white stuff. I guess we'll see what actually falls.

George just went over to the school to pick up Caleb, or maybe not. We don't know sure if Caleb will have basketball tonight due to weather. If he does Daddy will be staying to watch since it's only an hour. I'm sure Caleb will love that!

Aftter School Basketball

So, after school basketball was a thumbs up! I am so glad that Caleb actually enjoyed it.

Lorelei and I went over after school let out and found out there isn't enough room in the gym for spectators. Caleb started to cry. I walked him away from the other kids (mostly boys his age) and got him calmed down. Crisis was averted and Lorelei and I came home.

When I picked him up at 4 he was all smiles and in a good mood. They did dribbling and played a game; apparently Caleb's team won their game.

His behavior on coming home has been much better than the average day so I get the impression that getting some of that pent up energy out is a definite plus.

Forced Activity

Is it wrong for me to sign Caleb up for after school basketball without even mentioning it to him?

He likes sports. He likes soccer, he likes basketball, he likes baseball, he likes football...but he's completely unwilling to join a team to learn how to play. I get the idea from him that he thinks the other kids will make fun of him if he doesn't do it well and so he insists that daddy should teach him.

I love that he wants daddy to teach him all these things and I know George would like nothing better than to take Caleb out to teach him these things 7 days a week, but it's not possible. And we really don't have that type of space either.

The weather is getting colder and windier and cruddier and I want him to be out doing something...anything...that doesn't involve watching television, playing xBox, or games on the computer. I also want something to get out some of his extra energy.

So, we got a note last night in his take-home folder about a once a week basketball "clinic". It's $5 for six weeks, just one hour a week, immediately after school. It'll get me and Lorelei out to cheer him on. It'll get him doing something out of his comfort zone and I'm hoping it will also solidify some friendships for him since we'll be here a few years.

Was I wrong? Should I have just asked him and let him tell me no once again? I mean really, I've never met a kid who was so completely disinterested in getting involved in anything...and trust me I've offered everything that's come our way in the last 18 months.
