We Haz Keyboard!

It's a Casio CTK-496. And in fact, when I Googled for information on this particular model, it still shows up as a model being sold by Casio on their website! So, I think the $55 I just spent was not a bad deal at all considering the retail price right now is $129.99.

The CTK-496 includes 61 Full-Size keys, 100 Tones, 100 Rhythms, 100 Tunes, LCD Display, Dual Speakers, Transpose and Tuning Function, Microphone Input and Volume for Sing Along.

Craigslist -- ROCKS!

Honestly, this thing looks like it's hardly been used. I have no doubt that the original $75 the guy was asking was probably closer to the mark, but I am not complaining about getting the better deal.

Now, I must find some sheet music. I seem to have misplaced mine. And, I think I'll maybe get a beginners book for the kids and maybe give them some basic lessons. I know they are just going to love making music with it!

Lorelei and I went out to Goodwill this afternoon. They didn't have any used keyboards. I did however find one on Craigslist that still looks decent despite it's age. The man selling it would not hold it until tomorrow when George could go and pick it up. I refuse to go to some strange man's house for anything! We'll call tomorrow and see if he still has it. I can't really go wrong for $55.

And I think I'm a bit obsessed with this keyboard thing.

Max decided to chew up the velcro tab on Lorelei's relatively new pair of school sneakers after we got home from Goodwill. I'm not sure what I can do with them. He managed to make them mostly useless unless I resort to duct tape or can figure out how in the world to sew through it. I don't think Lorelei will be pleased with duct tape. I don't think either George or I will be pleased with purchasing another pair of shoes.

Room cleaning is on the agenda again tonight. Caleb is also grounded from television and his DS for the remainder of the week due to a temper tantrum last night. I'm thinking it won't go over real well. But I'll deal with it. He's gotten far too caught up in the games and shows anyway. Hardly ever wants to do anything else but play them or watch something. Time to get the boy a new hobby.

In Search Of -- Electronic Keyboard

I guess I'm a piano player. I took lessons for 7 years. I hated the lessons when I took them. But I adore a beautiful piano. And I love to play. It's relaxing. It's soothing. It's theraputic.

My mom has an old upright. Think 1907 or something early like that. Real ivory keys even. Manufactured by a company that went out of business long before the roaring 20's ever started. I learned how to play on it. It's out of tune. In fact, without a complete makeover, the old girl will never play a proper song.

I used to own an electronic keyboard. In my stupid teen years, I sort of gave it away. And it was a nice keyboard. Not some crappy little learners keyboard, but a REAL keyboard. But, I gave it away to someone who was playing music at the time -- whereas in my possession it was something to set a cold soda on.

Now, I'm almost 30. I have this itch to relearn what I was taught, maybe even learn a bit more, and play again. The kids like to play too. They pound away on my mom's old upright anytime they can. And now I've got nothing.

I went on a search tonight and found an older keyboard, maybe a 54 key {which is NOT big enough at all}, listed for free on Craigslist. I emailed within 10 minutes of it being listed and it was already gone. I'm totally bummed. The keyboard I want, a full 88 key Yamaha, over $800. Nice. Real nice. But definitely not happening.

So, I'm looking at 61 key models. And I'm not terribly impressed. Yamaha or Casio is my preferred brand -- because I know they are worth the money.

I guess I just keep searching until I find something I can afford that will let me take up my playing again. But boy do I miss it.
