Max the Conehead

A few days ago, poor puppy Max had to be neutered. The surgery was actually done later than normal since Max had another issue the doctor was hoping would resolve itself. When it didn't, well, they opted to go in and fix the problem surgically while doing the neuter. This is how Max will look for two weeks.

It wouldn't be so bad, but he's constantly bumping into people and things with his cone. I even have a bruise on the back of my calf to prove it. We can not wait for the cone to go away!

I'm so sick of hearing...

"Mom, the dog pooped!!!"
"Mom, the dog peed!!!"

Seriously Max, you need to figure your stuff out! Ten minutes after I take you outside you should not need to release any bodily fluids. Just so you know.

Want to Play?

I found these in a Google search this afternoon. Have fun!

Virtual Keyboard

Virtual Java Keyboard

Lorelei and I went out to Goodwill this afternoon. They didn't have any used keyboards. I did however find one on Craigslist that still looks decent despite it's age. The man selling it would not hold it until tomorrow when George could go and pick it up. I refuse to go to some strange man's house for anything! We'll call tomorrow and see if he still has it. I can't really go wrong for $55.

And I think I'm a bit obsessed with this keyboard thing.

------------------------------------------

Max decided to chew up the velcro tab on Lorelei's relatively new pair of school sneakers after we got home from Goodwill. I'm not sure what I can do with them. He managed to make them mostly useless unless I resort to duct tape or can figure out how in the world to sew through it. I don't think Lorelei will be pleased with duct tape. I don't think either George or I will be pleased with purchasing another pair of shoes.

------------------------------------------

Room cleaning is on the agenda again tonight. Caleb is also grounded from television and his DS for the remainder of the week due to a temper tantrum last night. I'm thinking it won't go over real well. But I'll deal with it. He's gotten far too caught up in the games and shows anyway. Hardly ever wants to do anything else but play them or watch something. Time to get the boy a new hobby.

Max, Max, Max....Oh boy!

This morning, after dropping Caleb and Lorelei off at school, I came home and attempted to take the dogs out to go potty.

Max, who had already peed in his crate, obviously needed to go more than Duke did. So, away we went on our little morning walk. At the corner, he stopped and squatted to do his business. A minute ticked by and he still hadn't done anything. So, I tried to get him to continue walking. Thinking maybe a little more walking would help move things along. He wouldn't budge.

I walked around to see what the issue was and noticed that the fur around his little butt was matted and because he was trying to go, it was also full of _____ . {I don't think I actually need to say it, you get the idea.}

I picked him up and proceeded to walk back to our house with him. Thinking maybe, just maybe, I could cut things loose with a scissors.

Scissors didn't seem to help and we proceeded back outside because I figured even though it hadn't appeared to work, perhaps I'd loosened his fur up enough to allow him to go. I hadn't. Poor Max strained and strained and strained for the next ten minutes while we both froze our tails off outside.

Finally, I took the bag from my pocket intended for his little deposit and tried unsuccessfully to swipe what had managed to come out off his little butt. This created more of a mess.

I brought him in the house. Took him upstairs and George had the honor of getting him cleaned up. Because I -- don't touch poop. Ever!

After his little morning bath he came dancing downstairs and fired up and ready to play. Being that he's a Schnoodle, he has sort of curly fur. And I realized we'll probably have this problem again -- which doesn't seem like much fun to George or I.

So I joked with George that perhaps I should get out the clippers and do away with poor Max's furry butt. Or you know, George could always give him another bath the next time it happens. And George, he sort of liked the clipper idea better than the bath idea.

While he held poor Max in a bit of a hog tie position, I clipped his poor little butt. Just enough that he shouldn't have any issues with his fur matting or his _____ coming out down the road.

It's been an interesting morning. Let me tell you.

All Very Random

  • I got a haircut again today. The back had grown out to an annoying length. I've given up on ever, ever, ever allowing it to grow out because once the back gets to that length, I hate it. So, I got the back cut shorter and had her blend it into the sides. I suppose I can at least grow those out. Maybe to my chin or something. Short hair it is. Which, I guess isn't so bad. At least I can style it.
  • Max, the wonder pup, got poop all over the carpet upstairs. So, instead of staying at home and out of the cold, I had to run out for more carpet shampoo. By the time I got home he'd left me another new pee stain too. That's the second time in a week I've had to shampoo the carpets up there. I'm getting sick of it.
  • Lorelei got to play at the mall play land while we were out. I figured we might as well do something fun for her if she was going to be dragged along on boring mom errands. She had a good time as usual.
  • Ten minutes of tanning was glorious this morning. I seriously almost fell asleep in the bed. It was so refreshing. I'm glad I only did five minutes on Tuesday because I came very close to getting a bit of burn this morning. I'm not noticing the same good results that I did when I first started going -- but I still think it's helping so I'll continue.
  • Caleb lost his reading book. I have no idea how. He brought it back to school on Friday morning last week and yesterday when he went back to school it was gone. I'm sure someone borrowed it out of his desk. But, I did send a little note to his teacher that we need something to replace it until his is located. Obviously, he can't go without it and be unable to read his assignments and then be expected to test on them.
  • I'm very ready to get my next tattoo and I know exactly what I want and where. Now to get the money and time to actually go have it done. Hopefully since I plan on it being relatively small this time around it won't cost me too much. I just hate waiting to get it now that I know what I want.
  • Lorelei has been very whiny today. In fact, I yelled at her when we got home this afternoon {which I shouldn't have} because instead of going into the downstairs bathroom and getting herself a tissue she came and demanded I do it while I was taking my shoes off. I am not the servant! Both kids have been really bad with their demands lately and I'm hoping we can get past it shortly. I dislike being told that I don't do anything for them. They should see what would happen if I did do nothing as claimed.
  • It's very cold here. Like 12 degrees cold. I can not wait for spring to finally arrive. Those warm days not too long ago were a real tease. I need some nice weather so we can get out of this house.
  • I promised Caleb Wii play time when he got home from school today. I really hope he's in a good mood so that it is a fun time and not a Caleb and Lorelei fighting time.
  • Is this week over yet? Apparently not.

Puppy Playtime

Snow Day!

We got our wish and school was closed today. We actually got more ice than snow, so I'm sure the roads just weren't good enough to haul all the kids in. We had another warning out too apparently, but it's been canceled now.

The kids are enjoying the fact that they get an extra day off, but I'm wondering now what we'll do for the next two weeks? I've got to come up with something to keep them from driving each other, and me, absolutely crazy.
--------------------------------
So, it's time for a puppy update.

Max is assimilating well. He and Duke are still working things out which can be funny and annoying all at the same time. I believe for the most part Max is willing to give Duke all leadership roles, but he still occasionally gets feisty and fired up.

We've had some accidents in the house. The only plausible explanation we can come up with is that Max finally started eating regularly (as he adjusted to his new environment he didn't eat much) and so his former ability to go 4 or 5 hours inbetween potty breaks just isn't cutting it now. He does tend to go and sit by the door if he has to go, so we just have to make sure we are diligent in watching for his signs.

He's figured out how to jump on and off the couch now. He's also figured out the evil stairs. He has not figured out, or gotten brave enough, to jump off our bed yet. It's pretty high and intimidating for a puppy. He's not having accidents overnight while sleeping with us, so that's also very good cause I don't think anyone wants to wake up to puppy poo or pee in the middle of the night.

Stairs Are Evil

Well, how rude. This video doesn't play the sound. So, I'll have to explainn so you aren't completely confused.

Max has figured out how to go upstairs. But -- he has not figured out how to go back down.

This is him, sitting at the top of the steps, whining as loudly as possible at me. He's obviously annoyed that I'm sitting at the bottom of the stairs video taping him instead of coming to his rescue at the top.

Puppy: Day Two

Max is still sweet and scrumptious and all that you could want in a lap dog. He'll cuddle up next to anyone sitting. He and Caleb had some major cuddle time after school.

Last night, I let him sleep in bed with me. Not a single accident. Much like having a newborn though, he was up a couple of times licking my face or nibbling at my ear to get attention. I'm almost certain I mumbled incoherently, "Lay down Max.", about a hundred times. As soon as my alarm went off this morning he was at it again.

Duke has decided to get a bit feisty. He's been attempting to hide "his" bones in the tree skirt and in the crevices of the couch. Neither are excellent hiding spaces, but of course, Duke is new at hiding his possessions. Before we brought this new thing into our house he could leave his toys where he wanted. Darn rents!

We still haven't had a single potty accident. Leash walking is getting better. And he's starting to recognize a bit that he, is in fact, Max.
--------------------------------
The kids are getting very excited about having a nice long Christmas break. Friday is their last day at school until about January 5th! Hard to believe. It always seemed Christmas break was so much shorter when I was a kid.

We bought them each a small desk today at Ikea. The price was right! We chose not to install the keyboard tray simply because they don't have keyboards and we wanted the design to be as simple as possible. Caleb tried his out tonight while doing homework. After George put Lorelei's together (not inside-out as I did to Caleb's) she sat down and did some coloring while Caleb finished up his shower. Oh, and we got chairs that are either very similar, or the same, as this one here. Thankfully -- those were already together when we bought them.
--------------------------------
That's it for tonight. I'm either off to wrap some more Christmas presents, clean the kitchen, or sit on my butt and watch George play Call of Duty. If he was feeling better I'd challenge him a round or two of bowling. But, headache, so no go.

Introducing Count Maximilian

Just like we did with Duke, whose full name is The Duke of Earl, we've given our newest little boy a special name too. His full name will be Count Maximilian, but we'll call him Max for short. He was born on 8-23-08, so he's about 4 months old. The oldest of the dogs available. We got him from the same place where we originally got Duke almost 5 years ago. He's a Schnoodle. A cross between a Schnauzer and a Poodle. As you can tell, the kids are already in love with our little addition.

He and Duke have been getting to know each other for about an hour now and it's gone really well. They've been chasing and sniffing each other without any sort of territory issues at this point.

Since we had planned on adopting a girl pup to even out the boy-girl ratio, we had no name pre-chosen. While waiting for Max to finish his bath I threw the name out at George and he originally turned it down. Upon further reflection during our drive home, we decided we couldn't think of anything else more fitting and so Max it is.

We're looking forward to many happy years and memories with both of our furry boys!
